At Outbound charters, we strive to offer an intricate experience catered to each of our clients. Captain Charles offers a wealth of opportunities to catch a variety of species in the beautiful waters of the Keys. Here's what you should know when fishing in the month of March in the Florida Keys:
We offer a variety of trips and can customize any trip, whether you're looking to catch trophy fish or just enjoy a peaceful day on the water. Our most common trips in march range from 4hrs to 8 hrs.
**Usually ur 4hr trip consist of a 10-15 minute boat ride to the reef line where captain Charles will drop anchor and begin to chum the water to attract Yellowtail Snappers. Although the primary target is Yellowtail Snappers there are many other species that will come up to feed in the chum.
**Our 6hr trip is a bit more versatile. We will either fish the outer reef edge or wrecks.
- Fishing the outer reef edge and wrecks consist of a 15- 30 minute boat ride. Once arriving Captain Charles will stop and calculate the drift while scanning the bottom with the fish finder. Once the drift is calculated Captain Charles will give you the rundown on how to properly drop your bait and what to expect when you get the bite. Snappers, Groupers, Jacks, African Pompano, Sharks and so many other species call these areas their home therefore you never know what will bite your hook next.
**Our 8hr trip consist of a longer run offshore to target Black Fin Tuna and Mahi Mahi. Approximately 26 miles offshore there is an underwater mountain known as the Marathon Hump. The Marathon Hump sits at roughly 1000ft to the bottom and 500ft at its peak. When the rushing current hits this underwater phenomenon it causes all the baitfish on the bottom to be rushed up to the surface creating a feeding frenzy for Black Fin Tuna and other offshore pelagic species. Once offshore we "run and gun" looking for weed line, floating debris, and birds. These indicators help us find the Mahi Mahi.
We provide all of the equipment you need for your fishing adventure, including rods, reels, tackle, fishing license and more. All of our equipment is top-of-the-line and meticulously maintained.

**3. Mahi-Mahi (Dorado): While not as abundant as in the warmer months, mahi-mahi can still be caught offshore. Look for floating debris, sargassum, or temperature breaks for a chance to find these colorful fish.
**4. Yellowtail Snapper: Closer to the shore, yellowtail snapper fishing can be productive. Reefs and wrecks are good locations to target these delicious and popular game fish.
**5. Mutton Snapper: January is a good time to target mutton snapper, particularly around the deeper reefs and wrecks.
**6. Barracuda and Shark: For anglers looking for some exciting action, barracuda and sharks are often present in the warmer nearshore waters.
Our expert crew has meticulously curated a selection of lively and irresistible live baits, including ballyhoo, pilchards, and goggle-eyes. These baits are chosen to emulate the natural movement that Predators find impossible to resist.
Navigating the offshore waters, we focus our efforts on sailfish-rich zones where currents, temperature breaks, and underwater structures converge. These hotspots are carefully selected to offer you the best opportunity for encountering these acrobatic predators.
Wahoo are attracted to underwater structures and wrecks. These provide shelter for baitfish, creating a feeding zone for predatory species.
Drifting or slow trolling live baits or high-speed lures around wrecks and structures can yield successful Wahoo encounters.
Harnessing the power of the wind, our kites serve as a dynamic tool to present live bait in an enticing and suspended manner. This method mimics natural prey behavior, attracting sailfish, Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, Kingfish and many more with unparalleled effectiveness.
The kite technique allows for strategic positioning of baits, resulting in astonishing topwater strikes that add an extra layer of excitement to your angling adventure.
January weather in the Florida Keys can be cooler compared to other times of the year. It's advisable to bring appropriate clothing, including layers, to stay comfortable on the water.
